Serum Zinc Level in Children With Simple Febrile Convulsions
نویسندگان
چکیده
Implication for health policy/practice/research/medical education: Febrile convulsions are the most common convulsive seizures in infants and preschool children. They are a leading cause of parental anxiety and family disruption. Recent studies have shown low serum zinc levels in children with febrile convulsions. Therefore, we carried out a study to determine and compare the serum zinc level in children with febrile convulsions with that of a control group of febrile children with the same age in our province. Our results could suggest a possible recommendation along with current practice in febrile seizures. Copyright © 2013, Iranian Red Crescent Medical Journal; Licensee Kowsar Ltd. متن کاملComparison of Serum Zinc Levels in Children with Epilepsy and Febrile Convulsions
Introduction: Epilepsy is one of the most common and chronic neurological diseases in children. The prevalence of this disease among children in Iran is estimated at 5%, which is higher than the average prevalence in other countries. Several studies have been done on the role of trace elements in serum and its role in the pathogenesis of epilepsy, but there is still little information on the ro...
متن کاملSerum zinc and copper levels in children with febrile convulsion
Febrile convulsions (FC) are the most common neurologic disorder in children 6-60 months of age. Zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) play role as cofactors in more than 300 enzymatic activities significantly. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship serum levels of Zn and Cu with seizure occurrence in febrile children. In this case-control study, 270 children with 6 month to 6 years were ev...

Background & Aims: Febrile convulsion is one of the most common causes of hospitalization of children in pediatric wards. The exact pathogenesis of seizure is not fully understood but involves several factors like genetic predisposition, changes in the levels of neurotransmitters, and some trace elements. The present study was conducted to evaluate the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) zinc (Zn) level...
متن کاملZinc Status in Febrile Seizure: A Case-Control Study
OBJECTIVE Febrile seizure is the most common type of seizure in children. Their incidence is 2-5%. There are different hypotheses about relationship between neurotransmitters and trace elements (such as zinc) and febrile seizure. Zinc, as a major element of some enzymes, plays an important role in the central nervous system (CNS) and can affect some inhibitory mechanisms of CNS. The aim of the ...
